chef greg vernick
New Jersey native, Greg Vernick, was drawn to kitchen life at an early age thanks to his mother owning a restaurant near their Cherry Hill home, and his grandfather owning a butcher shop in nearby Philadelphia.
Following his food career path, Vernick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Administration from Boston University, and then an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.
After working for Jean-Georges Vongerichten in several New York locations, including Nougatine and Spice Market, Vernick returned to Philadelphia in 2012, opening his debut restaurant, Vernick Food & Drink, where he received the James Beard Foundation award for “Best Chef Mid-Atlantic.”
Following up with two restaurants within Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia, part of Comcast’s urban campus, he opened Vernick Coffee Bar, a café with takeaway bakery and barista counter, and Vernick Fish, the chef’s ode to seafood and personalized version of an American oyster bar. In 2019, Vernick expanded his landmark Food & Drink location, opening Vernick Wine in the adjacent townhouse, a curated wine shop by day and jewel box dining room and private event space at night.
